01What your child actually gets

More than a martial art. A way to grow up braver.

Jiu-Jitsu gives a child something rare: a place where effort is visible, progress is measured, and losing is part of learning.

Build confidence

Knowing how to handle yourself changes how a child walks into a room, not just onto a mat.

Anti-bullying and self-defence

Children learn to control a situation calmly, without throwing a punch. That is the whole point of Jiu-Jitsu.

Improve focus and discipline

Classes have structure. They learn to listen, wait their turn, and finish what they started.

Fitter and better coordinated

An hour of moving, problem solving and getting back up, which beats an hour on a screen.

02The room

A space built for children, not borrowed from the adults.

Fully matted, air conditioned, with a viewing area so you can watch the whole class. Coaches who know every child by name.

  • Separate age groups: 3 to 5, 5 to 8, and 8 to 12
  • Small enough that no child hides at the back
  • Parents welcome to stay and watch
  • Gi provided for the trial, nothing to buy

03Before you book

The questions parents ask us first.

My child is shy

Most are, on day one. Classes start in a circle with names and a game, so nobody is singled out.

Is it rough?

No striking, ever. Kids learn grips, balance and escapes, supervised the whole time.

What do they wear?

Anything comfortable for the trial. We lend a gi, so there is nothing to buy first.

Can I stay and watch?

Yes. There is a viewing area and most parents watch the first few weeks.

The Avant-Garde BJJ team

Your child's first class could be this week.

The trial is free and there is nothing to buy. Worst case, they try something new for an hour. Best case, they find the thing they cannot wait to get to every week.
